For many aging adults, it’s not uncommon for basic tasks to become difficult or to experience symptoms of cognitive change, such as memory loss or memory impairment. If your parent or loved one is currently navigating some of these challenges, it’s likely the care they’ll require will eventually exceed what can be provided at home. Fortunately, the devoted team at The Sequoias is ready to deliver professional, compassionate support to help your loved one live an engaged and purposeful life. Rather than acting as caregiver, you can simply be family, knowing your loved one is being expertly cared for.

At The Sequoias, assisted living and memory care residents enjoy the same benefits as those in independent living, including private residences, access to a full range of desirable amenities, and a robust calendar of social events, fitness classes, and inviting activities that support their health and well-being. Additionally, they receive customized care tailored to their individual needs and preferences, including support with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, preparing food and managing medications. For those older adults experiencing cognitive change, such as Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, our specially-trained staff, expert-developed programs and secure environments make community life a compassionate, loving choice the entire family can agree upon.

Memory Care at The Sequoias

If your parent or loved one is living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia, they may begin to require more care and attention than you can provide on your own. Indeed, many studies have shown that as symptoms related to these conditions progress, family caregivers often experience a negative impact to their own mental and physical health, preventing them from providing the level of care their loved one requires. In this way, choosing to obtain professional help is likely the most kind and considerate decision you could make.

Designed to afford our residents the highest quality of life possible, the memory care neighborhood at The Sequoias offers professional and compassionate staff, life enrichment programs curated by brain health experts, and residences and community spaces that provide the highest levels of security while promoting independence. Educated on the importance of social interaction for those experiencing cognitive change, our team members are dedicated to building rich, personal relationships with those they care for, ensuring every resident feels seen, safe and connected.

How do you assess if you need help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)?

Assisted Living staff can help you or your loved one with ADLs. Here is a list of the most common ADLs. As you tour different communities, make sure to ask about how the caregivers help with these tasks.

Mealtime: What type of assistance do you need at mealtime? Our caregivers can help remind residents it’s time to eat or assist with eating as needed. You can eat in the dining room or enjoy your meal in your apartment. Your choice.

Personal Hygiene: Sometimes people need help with the simple things, like washing their face or reminders to brush their teeth. Our care staff are patient and loving. Whether a person needs a simple nudge, or more hands on assistance, we will be here to help.

Getting Ready for the Day: It’s not just about what you wear. It’s about who you are. Identity is derived from preparing yourself for the day. Many women pride themselves on their hair or makeup. Some gentlemen need their favorite sweaters or shoes to feel comfortable and complete. Our staff will know the preferences of each individual and make sure their daily routines are in alignment with their desires.

Getting Around: Regardless of if you need help moving about with a walker or wheelchair, or need help transferring to a seat or toilet, we are here. Our job is to make sure you have the assistance you need when you need it. We’ve also got pull cords and pendant so each person can call when they need us.

Medication Management: Taking your daily pills can be time consuming, and in some cases confusing. We will follow your doctor’s orders, help you fill your prescriptions, and be there to administer the medications at the time you need to take them, and with the right food and liquid.
